3 Resume Updates You Should Make Each Month - The Muse

3 Resume Updates You Should Make Each Month - The Muse 3 Resume Updates You Should Make Each Month The rationale behind refreshing your resume is somewhat of a puzzle. Except if you're effectively conveying applications, you'll put off amending it until tomorrow. Be that as it may, very frequently, incredible open doors show up surprisingly, and you'll wish you'd altered it yesterday. That is on the grounds that you probably won't be intentionally searching for a new position, yet then you see an astounding opening (with a quick moving toward application cutoff time). Or then again, you're welcome to join a board or interface over email with a lofty contact, and you have to append your resume. What's more, your heart sinks a piece as you understand you haven't opened it since you handled your last situation longer than a year back. Along these lines, you set out to refresh it in a rush, tolerating that you'll have no an ideal opportunity to alter how it's sorted out, or even to send it to a companion for editing. All the better you can do is attempt to check whether there's anything significant you should include (like another side gig or volunteer job), yet else you leave it basically with no guarantees. Of course, that is not the most noticeably terrible thing on the planet, however there's a superior way. Try to put in no time flat every month ensuring your resume is cutting-edge. I'm not recommending you redesign it at regular intervals: Seriously, you'll make yourself insane! Rather, I'm proposing a line anywhere and afterward reciting it for all to hear. By making these three updates every month, you'll be 100% arranged whenever some extraordinary open door tags along. 1. Include New Roles A great many people update their resume when they're searching for another position-and afterward let it lie torpid until the following pursuit of employment. It bodes well in that you can't generally begin altering when you acknowledge an offer, since who knows how intently the job will impersonate the position depiction. Yet, you could likely feel free to refresh it beginning following a month. Start by including the organization, position title, and your beginning date. The following month, include a couple of principle duties. Should a cool systems administration, distributing, or introduction opportunity go along, you'll have a beginning stage. This goes for volunteer positions, side undertakings, and post-graduate temporary jobs as well. Indeed, even a title and several lines will give you a skeleton so you could refresh your resume a lot quicker after all other options have been exhausted and be certain you're not overlooking anything. 2. Update Your Impact When you have all your present positions recorded, take a couple of moments every month to consider on the off chance that they're state-of-the-art. This goes for large things like if your title or essential obligations change, yet in addition for things like including new ventures. In her article, Three Ways to Make Sure Your Bullet Points Will Impress Recruiters Muse author Lily Zhang says: Basically, improved? Possibly you set aside time and cash on a task or made something all new that your group painfully required. The thought here is that you didn't simply up the head check at your organization, you tackled issues… To truly feature the effect you made, use numbers-think, 'chop preparing time somewhere around 3 days,' or 'planned and executed new interface, improving representative productivity by 30%.' Normally, you'll be better ready to review the aftereffects of your most recent undertaking the month you did it instead of a half year from now. In this way, on the off chance that you led a site upgrade or hit a significant deals objective, include that visual cue. (You can generally return later and cut it off it's not, at this point applicable or include long haul sway.) But for the present, you'll be certain this selling point is on your resume! 3. Twofold Check the Details Whenever you roll out an improvement, you need to check your resume is still in excellent condition. In this way, put aside a couple of moments every month for editing. On the off chance that you repeated your work in an earlier position, check the action words are still in past tense. Add something to another job? Watch that the action words are in current state. Search for consistency across what may appear minor subtleties: Either all shots should end with periods, or none should. Correspondingly, the month for all business dates ought to be illuminated, curtailed, or recorded as a number; not some blend of every one of the three. Headings like Understanding, Training, and Aptitudes ought to have normalized arranging possibly they're all in tops, or underscored with an underline, or they're all not. Next time a cool open door tags along whether it's to toss your cap in the ring for a new position or counseling opportunity, to talk at occasion, or just to append your resume to an email, you'll have the option to feel certain. You won't need to stress on the off chance that it truly reflects what you've been up to you, since you'll have been refreshing it from the start.

How to Raise a Child Star

Instructions to Raise a Child Star The principal rule of child rearing: Everyone thinks their kid is a whiz. In any case, if that really is valid, and you do have a one of a kind ability living under your rooftop, at that point keep an eye out. You need to begin contemplating how to build up that ability, how to help their vocation â€" and how to pay for everything. Presently there is a book to get you through the procedure. New York City-based amusement legal advisor Steven Beer just discharged Your Child's Career in Music and Entertainment, about how to explore the uneven waters of youngster superstardom. Following 20 years in the business and assisting with propelling the professions of Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift, Beer took up the errand when his own child, Max, was thrown in a visiting creation of Neil Simon's play Lost in Yonkers. Reuters plunked down with him to talk about what to do â€" and what not to do â€" when your child is going to assume control over the world. Q: Everyone thinks their child is capable. How would you know whether they are truly something extraordinary? A: Talent isn't sufficient. There must be an 'It Factor,' that gets through in a serious market. Also, they must be a self-starter, to be readied and mindful enough to practice without guardians goading them. Those are the things you are searching for. Q: If a kid begins getting offers, what should guardians pay special mind to? A: Parents are ordinarily so complimented that they don't think unmistakably. So they ought to plunk down with a decent lawyer to clarify and arrange it. For a craftsman simply beginning, a supervisor may request 20%. In any case, 15% is a decent center ground, and 10% is the thing that we take a stab at. Furthermore, you generally need a shorter term. Q: What expenses can guardians expect in building up their kid's profession? A: The greatest expense is preparing, similar to elevated level vocal or acting mentors. It is likewise over the top expensive to travel, regardless of whether it is to Midtown Manhattan for tryouts, or toward the West Coast for TV pilot season. Each March you have endless guardians and youthful specialists moving to homes in Studio City, California: They fly out there, lease a loft, lease a vehicle and pay for dinners. Those are costs you truly need to consider, on the grounds that they are significant. Q: What are some inventive approaches to fund all that? A: The pattern nowadays is to get to advancement dollars through crowdfunding stages like Kickstarter or Indiegogo. Those didn't exist a couple of years prior. On the off chance that you have a decent tryout tape, and individuals begin to get amped up for it, at that point fans will begin to finance you. Consequently you may give them a DVD, or a CD, or a behind the stage voyage through one of the kid's creations. Q: How significant is recording a financial plan? An: It is basic. It might appear as though this is only an enthusiasm, however this is a genuine business. So you need to record a marketable strategy, gauge costs and set up a schedule. On the off chance that a parent needs to quit working, that is another monetary component to be thought of. Plunk down with a bookkeeper and make sense of everything. Toward the finish of a specific period, you need to make a business judgment about whether it bodes well. Q: A ton of stage guardians see dollar signs with regards to their kids. What precisely would they say they are qualified for? A: There are a lot of models where guardians just grabbed their kid's incomes. A portion of that might be advocated, as far as the direct front speculation dollars that they get repaid for. In any case, that cash truly has a place with the kid as it so happens. Q: What do most guardians foul up in this circumstance? A: They do numerous things wrong. Generally it is on the grounds that they need involvement with these territories, and have no objectivity. At the point when it is your child, it is so natural to lose viewpoint. That is the reason I firmly encourage guardians to work with experienced experts as a sounding board. It is misleading territory, and they have to ensure everything is being done to the kid's advantage. The Pros Cons Of A Gap Year For Your Career

The Pros Cons Of A Gap Year For Your Career We've all known about hole years, and no uncertainty anybody you realize that has been on one will discuss it constantly. The idea is clear; you take a year out from your standard life and travel far and wide. A few people remain for a considerable length of time in one spot, while others are just in one area for seven days max. Normally, I'm not keen on the intricate details of a hole year. Rather, I'm progressively worried about how it influences your vocation. Will a hole year be a positive effect on your profession? Or then again will it end up being expensive? To make sense of this, we need to take a gander at the upsides and downsides. Instructing is one of the numerous occupations you can discover while you travel. Genius: Job Opportunities While You Travel Numerous individuals that have been on hole years will guarantee they're incredible for your profession as they open up many openings for work while you travel. It's not unfathomable for somebody to disappear to a non-English talking nation and find a new line of work as an instructor while they're there. At that point, you have ski seasons, which are well known hole year thoughts where you go to a ski resort and basically work there for a considerable length of time. There are heaps of ski occupations accessible that mean you can get paid while on your hole year. A similar thought applies to any place you're going; there are opportunities to discover work. Thus, you can at present have a profession, and yet appreciate the fun of a hole year. Likewise, these occupations give significant experience that may help you when you get back home. Con: Missed Opportunities On the other side, it's anything but difficult to contend there are botched chances back home since you're away. Imagine a scenario where you find employment elsewhere and inside half a month they open up a place that would've been ideal for you to be advanced into. You've botched your opportunity at ascending the profession stepping stool since you're away. In like manner, consider the possibility that you were hanging tight for the fantasy opening for work to open up, yet it didn't come. Along these lines, you disappear on your movements, and unbeknownst to you, the ideal occupation introduces itself while you're away. This is one of the fundamental issues individuals have with going on a hole year; it removes an enormous lump from your vocation where you may pass up on essential opportunities. A hole year can help divulge another vocation opportunity. Master: Leads To A New Career This point mixes in with the principal star about securing position openings abroad. As you travel, you see new things and addition important encounters. Subsequently, you can without much of a stretch discover something important to you that legitimately influences your vocation. How about we return to the case of instructing from prior; you may have had no desires of educating before your hole year. In any case, the open door emerged which prompted some chipping in, and now you need to seek after it as a vocation. Such a large number of things can occur while you're away that lead you down a fresh out of the box new vocation way with conceivably way a bigger number of chances than you had previously. All things considered, this can be useful for your profession. It could be more enthusiastically to secure positions when you have returned from your movements. Con: You Get Held Back In a lifelong sense, going on a hole year is practically similar to being kept down a year at school. You're behind every other person, which means you're in a more awful situation to secure the position you need. Consider it along these lines; envision you and another person are both on a similar vocation way. At that point, you disappear for a year, while they keep on working. They've presently got an additional time of involvement with this profession, alongside all the aptitudes they've grown as well. In this way, on the off chance that you return and begin searching for work, it's harder to get the jobs you need as there are heaps of individuals like this who are in preferred situations over you. Frequently, this implies you need to begin back at the starting point with a section level employment or something low maintenance. Indeed, you'll despite everything have the experience you had before you leg, yet bosses care very much about ongoing experience. They'd preferably enlist somebody with an ongoing encounter working in their industry than somebody whos taken a year out and may require additional opportunity to raise back to an acceptable level. Will a hole year keep you down? Will it help advance your profession? The response to either address is just; perhaps. Everything relies upon how you utilize your hole year. In the event that you consider it to be only a reason to travel and have a year occasion, at that point it will keep you down. Be that as it may, in the event that you use it as an approach to increase new encounters and keep on building up your aptitudes through chipping in and low maintenance work, at that point it can profit you.

Holidays, family reunions and summer barbecues all present a great opportunity to connect with the older generation who just might be seasoned professionals in your field. Before your next family gathering, do your homework. Ask your parents what their brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles do for a living. Pose the same question to your best friends. When you get to the party, be prepared to ask questions of those who’ve “been there done that” in your industry and get ready to make some career connections while learning something new. Dont be shy, people are almost always willing to help out a friend and family member in need. As long as youre not pushy about it, and realistic about your expectations of how much they can help you, youre golden. So jump in there, be assertive. Dont be afraid to ask for what you want. There is a fine line between keeping family/friends updated on your professional endeavors, and being downright pushy. Were talking about your friends here, so you want to tread even more carefully in this area. You always want to be professional and courteous regardless of where and with whom you are networking. But these are your friends and family, so kick it up a notch as Emeril says. For example, if you sell jewelry and have a couple of aunts whom you think might be interested in attending your next event, bring it up to them in a friendly way. But if they seem the least bit uneasy, do NOT push the issue. Sometimes its not worth trying to turn a friendship into a professional relationship, and vice versa. Or if youre uncle Joe knows someone in the field you are interested in stepping into, make sure he feels comfortable providing the referral before you press the issue. Be up front, let him know youd love to make the connection, but you also want it to be appropriate and comfortable for him. I always think being honest and up front is the way to go. Beating around the bush takes too much time and effort. It wastes your time and theirs. Have fun! Hallie,I can help you take the next step! Related Links:Networking Please Share This

He's remained in his present place of employment hanging tight for advancements that never came when the individuals above him never tried to progress, and in light of the fact that he would not like to chance movement, he felt his alternatives were restricted. In the event that you've been thinking about whether it's the ideal opportunity for you to investigate what's out there, here are a couple of signs it's a decent an ideal opportunity to glance around: No development openings â€" and I mean open doors for getting the hang of, preparing, and advancing. It is safe to say that you are flourishing in your job or is it stale? No headway openings â€" the organization isn't advancing from inside, the individuals above you are not going anyplace in their profession and want to move, so there's no place for you to go. The organization isn't developing so new open doors aren't being made. You've contributed all that you can or had the greatest effect that you can, and so as to keep having any kind of effect you need to leave the current organization. You've communicated an enthusiasm for climbing (perhaps on numerous occasions) yet your manager is keeping you down out of the blue. The workplace is negative and it's making undue pressure. The way of life is smothering and your thoughts and contemplations aren't paid attention to. You're despondent, you sense that your vocation is stale, and you understand that you could be accomplishing more, gaining more, believing progressively satisfied and more tested on the off chance that you were utilized elsewhere. Regardless of whether we have a feeling that we should make a lifelong move, we don't generally make the following move to do it. My first employment out of school I had a horrendous chief. Discussion about getting true instruction! It didn't take me long to make sense of that I would not have been upbeat working for an excessively negative chief, yet it was a lot more months before I at last got up the boldness to proceed onward. I continued holding tight, hanging tight for an advancement or for the circumstance to change. Neither occurred; I in the long run had my fill and proceeded onward. I as of late asked my LinkedIn associations for what good reason they remained in a vocation they despised: What keeps us away from making our next profession move? Accommodating my family's essential needs Children are in a decent school and would prefer not to move Difficult time finding another chance Remaining for a guaranteed advancement Holding back to hit the 10-year point to get retirement For cash and the annuity Employment dependability â€" to not seem like a vocation container Home loan, school educational cost â€" LIFE I additionally need to address a portion of the things that we don't generally prefer to discuss that cause us to remain in occupations with practically no development and headway openings? Dread of the obscure. I hear many individuals mourn over the what uncertainties. What on the off chance that I detest the new position? Imagine a scenario in which it's more regrettable than my present one. Imagine a scenario in which the manager is more terrible. Imagine a scenario in which I need to move. Consider the possibility that I can't discover anything appropriate or that will pay me my present compensation. We let dread, uncertainty, and stress shield us from attempting new things, glancing around to perceive what's out there, or wandering out into another open door that may really end up being such a great amount of better than we at any point thought! Let me urge you not to let dread keep you down. Rather than concentrating on the negative what uncertainties, we should concentrate on the positive ones. I'm great at this, being the everlasting hopeful person I am. Imagine a scenario in which your new manager is astounding, put resources into your development, and values your thoughts as well as executes them. Imagine a scenario in which your new boss qualities your info, choices, and achievements. Imagine a scenario where the new business pays you 30-half more than your present yearly compensation to accomplish the work you love. Consider the possibility that your profession fulfillment increments and you feel increasingly satisfied when you go to work. Imagine a scenario where the choice to leave your present organization and acknowledge another job changes the whole direction of your vocation, making you win progressively, advance quickly, contribute at a more elevated level, and have a greater effect. Take that shot Youll miss 100% of the ones you dont take

Make that effort You'll miss 100% of the ones you don't take Make that effort You'll miss 100% of the ones you don't take With incredible force, comes extraordinary duty. - Stan Lee, SpidermanAt the start of b-ball season, during my senior year of secondary school, my long-term companion and I were named skippers of our group. It was a huge respect. My mentor and partners considered enough us to make us pioneers. Presently, we needed to act like them. Which implied, being daring notwithstanding significant choices and opportunities.Despite naming us as skippers, my mentor additionally knew we each had our inadequacies. I needed to defeat a red hot disposition. I played irate, I played passionate - and my mentor knew it. So we tended to it and made sense of how to utilize it to my advantage. My co-skipper was a definitive cooperative person. Truth be told, on occasion, he was excessively unselfish. During probably the hardest loss of the period, out and about against an opponent, my companion missed a layup (a nearby took shots) at a pivotal turning point in the game. He felt awful about it, understanding it was a botched chance that could have helped us win the game. So, my mentor ensured he realized that committing errors were OK. He gave him a blessing - one I've generally recollected and helped myself to remember at essential minutes throughout my life. It was a statuette of a b-ball and recorded on the base it read,You'll never make 100% of the shots you don't take. The words are a twofold negative interpretation of the well known Wayne Gretzky quote that is the title of this article. Wayne Gretzky is referred to generally as the best hockey player to ever live. He said these words, as both an incredible objective scorer and passer, since he perceived what it intended to let it all out. Gretzky comprehended he'd make mistakes. He remembered he'd come up short, tumble down and need to get back up again. Most altogether, The Great One knew whether he never gave things a shot, he'd need to live with that dreadful sentiment of disappointment. You know the inclination - where you're sus pended in a horrid idea limbo, thinking about, 'What could have been?'Go for itGretzky was capable unfathomable, and at an early stage in his profession, he was urged to turn into the youthful pioneer of the Edmonton Oilers and lift his game to help improve the players around him. It paid off. Gretzky would proceed to win four Stanley Cup (NHL hockey titles) with the Oilers during the 1980s.I've took this exercise with me wherever I've gone. That straightforward blessing implied such a great amount to my companion and it implied a ton to me, too. It accomplished such a great deal to run dread, reluctance and uncertainty. Three things that can crush us and stop progress. Uncertainty and dread, specifically, will prevent us from ever accomplishing the greatest dreams and objectives in our lives. If you play with the mentality that committing errors is OK, that giving things a shot is the correct approach, at that point you'll in every case live with more noteworthy certainty. You'll se e positive outcomes. While it helps having a mentor, educator or companion there to support you, that individual won't generally be there. When you've developed into the young lady or man you are, you'll realize that settling on that choice, as opposed to not making one by any means, is what it's all about. We proceeded to have an effective season that year. We discovered that mix-ups were OK. That we'd generally come up short, consistently pass up a great opportunity in the event that we never gave things a shot. It's in every case better to give things a shot.Where are you?Maybe you're going back and forth right now about something. Is it dread of soliciting out the lady from your fantasies? Uncertainty around whether to acknowledge or decay an occupation? Could be you dread open talking - or putting your structure, composing or workmanship out there for open utilization. Trust me when I let you know, you must be happy to give it a shot. There's an odd solace in dread. Dread leaves us caught, yet it strangely squashes future dread about giving things a shot. So we now and then remain there. Stuck in an endless loop. At the point when we take a gander at things impartially, it's absurd to live in dread. The explanation we frequently do - why we don't give things a shot - is on the grounds that we regularly dread achievement. We dread the obscure - of turning out to be something greater, more noteworthy and more astonishing than we would ever imagine.Don't be that individual who remains uninvolved and never becomes acquainted with. Give it a shot. Go for the stars. Leave this alone your source of inspiration to push ahead with that significant choice in your life that is sitting tight for you.Get started!Join my bulletin and look at my smash hit book, The Value of You. How to Build Trust With Clients and Candidates

How to Build Trust With Clients and Candidates Part of the job of a recruiter is to communicate sensitive information from one party to another, which  often requires a great deal of trust amongst all those involved. Unfortunately, for legitimate recruiters  trust with potential/ first time clients and candidates is often more difficult to establish than for other  service providers, due to a general mistrust of the industry. This has been caused by individuals who  carry out underhand recruitment practices and provide a poor level of service. Many of the benefits that both clients and candidates receive from using a recruiter arise from the fact  that there is no direct communication between employer and potential employee in the first instance. For example, a candidate can have their profile submitted to businesses of interest anonymously,  without potentially jeopardising their position within their current organisation and relevant candidates  can be approached with job opportunities without a client directly having to contact their competition. However, this lack of direct access can also be a source of suspicion and mistrust between client and  recruiter and recruiter and candidate, especially if it is someone you haven’t worked with before. So  how do you convince your customers to rest assured that you are working in their best interest? Here  are 5 practises to give them the peace of mind that you are on their very much side. Negotiation: The ability to negotiate is a great skill to have. Unfortunately it is something a lot of people struggle  with and feel uncomfortable doing. It is therefore a great benefit to many candidates to have a third  party at hand to do this on their behalf. The problem being the negotiator, is that it can often breed  mistrust on the client side, especially if the chosen candidates is asking for more money. When  working on a percentage of salary, accusations of trying to increase the salary in order to increase the  fee isn’t unheard of. By capping the fee at the initial salary at this point is a good way to counteract  this. By doing this you are not only demonstrating good faith, but also establishing that you are willing  to compromise in order to keep the relationship going long term. Honest is the best policy: The most effective way to build trust is to be open and honest with both parties. This isn’t the same as  being completely transparent,  as there is always going to be details the client doesn’t want disclosing  to the candidates and vice versa. But by being honest, regarding what you can and can’t disclose and  the reasons why this is the case will build trust across the board. It is also important to be honest  regarding why a role has been difficult to fill or why a candidate isn’t being successful at interview no  matter what the reasons may be. A client may initially be offended if you inform them that they have a  bad reputation as an employer within the industry or a candidate may take umbrage if you inform  them that the interviewer thought they looked like they were dragged through a hedge backwards  (you probably wouldn’t quite use those words), but on reflection they will respect you for your honesty  and understand that you are ultimately trying to help them imp rove and achieve their ultimate goals. Providing the evidence: As well as being honest it is beneficial to provide evidence to back up your statements where ever  possible. For example if a candidate is asking for more money, to establish the clients trust you can  provide them with the salary band of all the candidates sourced for the role to demonstrate that the  salary on offer is lower than average within the market place. If this isn’t the case then it is up to you  to lower the candidate’s expectations using the same evidence as a basis. It is extremely important to keep everyone updated. One of the biggest frustrations, especially from a  candidate point-of-view, is having a meeting with a recruitment consultant and then hearing nothing. If  it is a candidate  you can potentially help, then schedule to call them regularly. If there isn’t any news, then call them anyway to see how they are and update them if you have being carrying out any work  on their behalf. If you meet a candidate it is unlikely you can do anything for, then don’t string them  along. They will respect you much more for being honest and saying you can’t help and will leave with a positive impression of you or your company. They may never use you again, but they may  recommend you to someone that you can help. Recommendations: As well as experience, trust can be built through recommendation. How we shop online very much  demonstrates how much we trust the opinions of others. Very few people these days would make a  purchase, see a film or go to a restaurant unless they have read a review regarding someone else’s  thoughts on the product or experience. The number of ratings and reviews is also significant. It is  much less of a risk buying a product or going to a place which has a high average rating amongst  thousands of people. This is also the situation in recruitment. By collecting and publishing as many  testimonials and case studies as you can from both clients and candidates you can demonstrate that  you are a consultant worth trusting and who work on behalf of their customers’ best interests.

Why is your application hitting the reject pile

Why is your application hitting the reject pile Youve submitted your CV or application form but cant seem to convert applications into interviews. Youre not alone. Hundreds if not thousands  of applicants find themselves in a permanent cycle of application, followed by rejection. So, how do you turn that no into a yes? In a nutshell: by giving the employers what theyve asked for! It might sound rather trite and overly simplistic but feedback from graduate recruiters suggests that many applicants are failing to get even the basics right. I took some time out at our big careers fair last term to ask a few of our employers why they reject applications and some common themes began to emerge. Take a moment to watch the film and avoid the application pitfalls. Just for emphasis. Think about where YOU fit into the company and its culture. Treat each application individually and make sure your research shines through. You cant do justice to graduate job applications with a quick scan of the company website, so make sure you are thorough and meticulous with your research.  Employers know that you are also applying to their competitors, but they want to feel special. Try to show that you understand them  and can find common ground and shared values. Check the requirements. Although many graduate schemes and roles are open to applicants from any degree discipline, do not assume this is the case. Find out before you apply dont waste valuable time and effort applying for something youre not eligible for. As Michelle (Severn Trent) comments, over 50% of applicants to their graduate programmes are rejected because they dont meet the basic requirements. Follow the STAR method. Most of you are probably familiar with STAR (or its various incarnations: CAR, CARE, STARE) but not all applicants are using this framework to good effect. Put the greatest emphasis on  action and result and avoid overly descriptive accounts that promise much, but say little. If youre not on the application treadmill yet, its probably worth taking some time to record and reflect on your experiences to date. Drafting good, STAR-quality answers is very time consuming, so dont leave it all until just before the application deadline. It sounds obvious but check, check and check again! Even minor spelling or grammatical errors may be enough to cast your application onto the no pile. Some companies have a very low tolerance for typos and will only allow one or two mistakes or maybe none at all. Its also worth considering what impression an error-strewn application will make on a potential recruiter. Treat the application process seriously and give each and every form your full attention. And remember, quality trumps quantity

Modern Office Trends for 2020

Modern Office Trends for 2020 Professionalism in the workplace is a topic that continues to evolve as we head into a new year and a new decade. Gone are the days of the completely formal office environment stuffed with cubicles and suits. Today those are being rapidly replaced with open floor layouts and casual dress codes. Business owners are shifting their office culture and office layouts with their employees need in mind first and foremost to adapt to the demands of the modern worker. So how does this shift impact both business owners and employees? Olivet Nazarene University recently surveyed over 2,000 American workers to try to gain more insight into this trend. The goal of this survey was to learn more about the average American workers satisfaction with their current office environment and how it contributes to their happiness and productivity in the workplace. Let’s take a look at what they found: Modern office layouts Olivet Nazarene first asked respondents about the type of office layout they currently work in. Cubicles, which were once the most common type of office layout, have now been replaced by a mixture of open floor layouts and private offices. Listed below is the breakdown of the top 5 most common types of office layouts: A mix of open floor and private offices (34%)Cubicles (28%)Private offices (21%)Open floor plan, assigned seats (13%)Open floor plan, no assigned seats (4%) The survey found that over 77% of American works are currently happy with the way their office is set up. Workers in private offices reported the highest levels of happiness with workers in cubicles reporting the lowest levels of happiness. Productivity levels while at work A majority of employees (67%) reported that they are currently as productive as they can be in their current office layout. Once again workers in private offices reported the highest levels of productivity and workers in cubicles reported the lowest levels of productivity. American workers stated a quiet location as the thing they need most in their office to be productive followed by a dedicated working space and a comfortable chair or desk. Workers were also asked about the things they like most and least about their current office environment. When it comes to what makes us happiest while working, amenities like free food and drinks, exposure to natural light, pet-friendly working environment, outdoor space and access to nearby walkable locations should come as no surprise. There were however a few surprises on the list of things that workers dislike most at work. Noise, lack of privacy, distractions, lack of energy and isolation were among the top answers for things that people dislike the most while at work. Workplace distractions Digital distractions are becoming a more common problem in many of today’s workplaces, negatively impacting office productivity for many workers and business owners. Technology has made it more convenient to communicate with colleagues through channels other than face-to-face interactions. Today the average employee has more daily conversations through messaging apps (9) than traditional face-to-face conversations (8). There is also a negative connotation with messaging platforms as work with nearly half (45%) of all workers believing that these messaging platforms are used for employee surveillance. Working from home The last part of the survey asked about the often-controversial topic of letting employees work from home.   59% of workers said they dress more casually than they would while at work. Surprisingly enough 1 in 3 workers admitted to having worked naked or in their underwear while working from home. Also, 58% of workers reported being less productive on work from home days. Workers admitted to having trouble dealing with distractions and communicating with colleagues while working from home as well. What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up - Cubicle Chic

What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up - Cubicle Chic What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up? Career, Career design, Development July 19, 2016 0 CommentsImagine answering this question as your 5 year-old, 10 year-old, and 15 year-old self. The answer may not have been the same, but I bet the certainty about whatever you wanted to become, dwindled over time. And what DID we want to be? A writer, an animal shelter owner, maybe a coffee shop barista. For me, it certainly wasn’t corporate marketing in the tech sector or even a lifestyle blogger.  Top:  High-end similar;  affordable similar Trousers:  Similar,  similar Shoes:    High-end similar;  affordable similar Bag:  Banana Republic Tote  (on sale now!!!)But somewhere along the last 30 years, I gained more skills, learned more about myself, found out the possibilities of professions that exist out there. My options became plenty, but the certainty shrank in what I want to become when I grow up.The one scenario in which we have to seriously consider this question, as adults, is often during an interview. When a potential job offer is at stake, this question becomes that much more delicate and difficult to tackle. So I’ve come up with a list of questions to help you shape your thinking and get closer to the answer. Answer to yourself honestly, and based on those answer, you can craft an interview appropriate response.  Top:  High-end similar;  affordable similar Trousers:  Similar,  similar Shoes:    High-end similar;  affordable similar Bag:  Banana Republic Tote  (on sale now!!!)How do you answer “where do you see yourself in 5/10/15 years”, which is basically “what do you want to be when you grow up?” in the adult world.I would segment your thinking into two areas: professional, and personal. In your personal life, in 5/10/15 years:What motivates you to get out of bed every morning? How high does work rank in your overall life in terms of priority? Who do you spend the most time with outside of work? What do you do for fun? Do you see yourself getting married and/or starting a family? Do you live in the city, suburbs, the mountains, or a coastal city?  Top:  High-end similar;  affordable similar Trousers:  Similar,  similar Shoes:    High-end similar;  affordable similar Bag:  Banana Republic Tote  (on sale now!!!)In your professional life, in 5/10/15 years:Why do you have a job, is it just for financial support os is it a fulfilling cause? Are you managing people, being responsible for their development? What kind of hours do you work, 9-5 or freelance? Are you a single contributor or do you work in a team? Do you have entrepreneurial aspirations? Do you work in a global setting or more regionally focused? What does financial success mean to you?  Top:  High-end similar;  affordable similar Trousers:  Similar,  similar Shoes:    High-end similar;  affordable similar Bag:  Banana Republic Tote  (on sale now!!!)   Top:  High-end similar;  affordable similar Trousers:  Similar,  similar Shoes:    High-end similar;  affordable similar Bag:  Banana Republic Tote  (on sale now!!!)This is how I crafted my plan based on the approach above:Having ownership over creative and challenging work is what motivates me every morning, the first thing I think of when I wake up.  Work is a priority because it’s a source of (really good) income but also something that keeps me on my toes and hungry for intellectual growth. I hang out with friends that I share common interests within my free time, and spend just as much time with close family. I snowboard in the winter, surf in the summer, go on hikes, enjoy yoga, and rock climbing. I love being outdoors. I live in the suburb with my husband, possibly some kids, and not too far from my parents.Work-wise, I work alongside a bunch of driven, inspiring, and kind people. I lead projects as well as people. I take ownership of my job and I trive to make an impact in everything I do. I find the idea of starting my own business interesting, but I think after my kids are older is probably the better time to take more seriou s actions toward the idea. I also work in a global setting in my work, dealing with people from different continents, and constantly applying my fluency in Mandarin Chinese. I think of financial success as having a good control over my daily budget and expense, and earning good enough an income where I can save, and occasionally indulge in nice vacations or occasionally more materialistic things. With these two paragraphs as the basis,  I now feel much more confident answering the question “where do you see yourself in 5/10/15 years” now. What do your two paragraphs look like?

Community First Responder The Ultimate Guide

Community First Responder The Ultimate Guide Community first responders (CFR) play a key role in providing life-saving emergency care to patients. They are voluntary workers, dispatched by charities, to attend selected 999 calls. These volunteers significantly reduce the risk of nearby patient’s condition getting worse, and are often the difference between whether somebody lives or dies. In this blog, we’ll provide you with all the information that you need on Community First Responders. What is a Community First Responder? A Community First Responder is a trained volunteer, who provides life-saving treatment in their local area/workplace, until an ambulance arrives. Due to the fact that (by definition) CFRs live in the local area, they are the first to arrive at an emergency scene and therefore the first to administer treatment. This means that they play an essential role. For example, it is estimated that when a patient is experiencing cardiac arrest; every minute that goes by without them being defibrillated could reduce their chances of survival by 10%. Community First Responders also assist with other medical conditions such as breathing difficulties, or bleeding. Even the simplest techniques, such as placing a patient in the recovery position, can contribute to saving a life. To learn more about saving lives, make sure you check out our Paramedic partnership website. How do Community First Responders train? Community First Responders are trained by the charities and voluntary agencies that they work for. During the training process, all volunteers will be given a complete guide to life saving skills and hoe to use essential equipment. Many voluntary organisations work in conjunction with each other, to provide a competent and thorough national service. Once their training is complete, First Responders will be ‘on call’. This means that when they are working/volunteering, they’ll be alerted by Ambulance Control staff as to when they are needed at an incident or emergency scene. Usually you’ ll work as part of a rota. What qualities do I need to become a Community First Responder? In order to become a Community First Responder, there are a number of personal qualities that you will need to have. It’s important to remember that this can be an incredibly stressful job, and you may experience things which are upsetting. With this in mind, it’s important that you are someone who is able to deal with traumatic incidents, in a calm and logical manner. Along with this, ask yourself the following questions:Do I want to make a difference? As we have mentioned, Community First Responders play an integral role in life-saving. By volunteering, you would be signing yourself up to make an enormous difference to the community.Do I have the time? This is an important question. It’s not just about having the time to actually work as a First Responder, but to train too. Training is a sometimes lengthy process, that doesn’t just happen overnight. It takes a long time to learn the techniques needed to administer life-saving treatment, and this is something you’ll need to be prepared for in order to become a Community First Responder.Am I ready to deal with medical emergencies? Community First Responding is no picnic. You’ll be dealing with patients in severe pain, some of them close to death. In the worst cases, it’s possible that you’ll witness someone die in front of you. If this sounds too much to handle, then it might be worth questioning whether this is the right role for you. The nature of the medical industry, sadly, dictates that death is always a possibility.Do I hold a full, clean driving license? Naturally, Community First Responders need to arrive at the scene of medical emergencies in a swift and efficient manner. This means that they must be able to drive (this is non-negotiable) and their license must be clean.Am I in good health? Finally, if you are delivering essential first aid to patients, it’s important that you are someone who i s in good health yourself. Community First Responding means a lot of rushing from A to B, in extremely fast time. Good health is linked with mental sharpness, making you a far more capable Community First Responder.
